The project began its outreach activities by promoting undergraduate courses at the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul in September. In addition, the project aims to generate participation with high schools in Dourados, whether to hold presentations of the courses themselves, the university, science fairs, exhibitions, or other activities that are freely chosen by the collaborators, since the project involves the participation of students and professors from the Postgraduate Program in Natural Resources (PGRN), together with professors and students from other undergraduate courses at the Dourados Unit, in order to promote knowledge, arouse curiosity, and promote the university and courses at UEMS.
Caburé Project: The Public Prosecutor's Office Keeping an Eye on the Waters
The State Public Prosecutor's Office, Dr. Anthony Állison Brandão Santos, met on 09/28/2018 at 1:30 pm to discuss a project by the State Public Prosecutor's Office with the PGRN and other agencies, regarding environmental damage, soil analysis and water quality. The project entitled "Caburé Project: The Public Prosecutor's Office Keeping an Eye on the Waters" aims to prevent and protect water resources in the Ivinhema River Sub-Basin located in the Deodápolis District.
Environmental education activities and restoration of riparian vegetation with the Laranja Doce Scout group in Dourados-MS and assessment of fish diversity and distribution and their relationship with water quality. In 2017-2018, the laboratories and zoological collection linked to the PGRN periodically receive visits from schools in the Dourados region, under the coordination of Professor Yzel Rondon Suarez.
Professor Etenaldo Felipe Santiago develops technical partnership activities with the Municipal Department of the Environment of Jatei, the Green Room project at the Gerson Pereira Dias School Site in that municipality, and also develops, together with Professor Yzel Rondon Suarez, technical support with the Municipal Government of Taquarussu, in activities related to the implementation of the Conservation Unit: Veredas de Taquarussu – ESEC/Taquarussu, through the Technical Cooperation Agreement signed between the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul-UEMS and the Municipal Government of that municipality.
Professor Claudia Andrea Lima Cardoso is developing an extension project entitled "Natural Resources: Dissemination and Inclusion", which offers courses, lectures and visits to public and private schools and universities in the region, both induced and at the request of the institution. In 2017, seven courses lasting between 4 and 40 hours were held for undergraduate and graduate students and the community in general, in addition to five lectures in schools in Dourados on different topics of regional interest. This project involves the participation of professors, students from the PGRN and also undergraduate students from the Industrial Chemistry and Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences courses. In the 2017-2018 period, two extension scholarships were obtained for undergraduate students from the Industrial Chemistry and Physical Engineering courses. In 2018, courses, visits and lectures were held in the extension project "Natural Resources: Dissemination and Inclusion", for students in basic and higher education by professors and students from the PGRN.
To assist in this process of social inclusion, in 2017, we began holding the Symposium on Natural Resources, coordinated by professor Sandro Marcio Lima, held by the PGRN with the participation of both the scientific community and professionals who work with issues related to the environment. The first edition took place in 2017, but in that same year we submitted a project to CAPES to assist in the region for the second edition of the event and managed to obtain resources of around 18 thousand reais to hold the event in August 2018.
In 2017-2018, professor Gilberto José de Arruda obtained three extension scholarships for students of the Chemistry Bachelor's and Industrial Chemistry courses with actions linked to schools in the city of Carapo-MS related to the teaching of Chemistry using games and experiments.
In 2017-2018, professor Gilberto José de Arruda Antonio Rogério Fiorucci coordinates the PIBID project in the Chemistry Degree course at UEMS/Dourados and several of the works developed by his PIBID group demonstrate the clear relationship between undergraduate and graduate studies, in addition to the role that this interaction has in strengthening basic education.
Our theses and dissertations also help in social inclusion, since they generally relate to topics that are directly related to society. Some of the topics are sugarcane and alcohol activity, water quality and/or aquatic environments, plant and animal biodiversity and environmental case studies (monitoring, and pollutants).
Teaching Chemistry in the Context of Science and Technology: Sustainable Development and Reduction of Social and Regional Inequalities
The project is being developed at the Naviraí and Dourados units by professors Alberto Adriano Cavalheiro and Gilberto José de Arruda. EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
Among the permanent teachers of the PGRN, Professors Laércio Alves de Carvalho and Yzel Rondon Súarez develop environmental education activities and the restoration of riparian vegetation with the Laranja Doce Scout group in Dourados-MS. Professor Laércio A. Carvalho develops them together with students from the Environmental Engineering course at UEMS/Dourados, while Professor Yzel R. Súarez works mainly evaluating the diversity and distribution of fish and their relationship with water quality. Other actions are listed below.

Pollution affects 90% of Dourados' streams
A study by the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS) indicates that 90% of Dourados' streams are polluted. Several types of waste are starting to cause the death of some types of fish, such as the Dourado, one of the symbols of the city. Among the 30 species studied, only 30% are resistant to environmental degradation, as they are able to absorb oxygen from the air, carrying out gas exchange in the intestine. The remaining species are disappearing. Coordinator: Yzel Rondon Súarez.

The PGRN and the preservation of the Veredas
The UEMS, through a technical cooperation agreement, contributed to the implementation of the first conservation unit in the ecological station category in Mato Grosso do Sul, the Veredas de Taquarussu Municipal Ecological Station, by Municipal Decree No. 038 of March 24, 2017. Just like the cerrado stricto sensu (the one with the characteristic trees with twisted trunks and thick bark), the veredas dominated by the buriti palm (Mauritia flexuosa) constitute environments at serious risk of disappearing, giving way to productive activity. These natural environments make up the biodiversity of the Cerrado, of incalculable economic and ecological importance.

TECHNICAL VISIT
SENAI students make a technical visit to PGRN/CERNA in Dourados/MS
A group of students from the Technical Qualification in Chemistry course, offered by the National Industrial Training Service (SENAI), visited the Center for Studies in Natural Resources (CERNA) of the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS), Dourados unit, this Tuesday (14).
The technical visit was organized by the Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Program in Natural Resources (PGRN), in partnership with SENAI. During the visit, students were able to observe and participate in the chemical analysis processes carried out in the CERNA laboratories. The students were accompanied by instructors Eliane Ferreira de Souza and Mikaelly Nayara Santos, students of the Doctorate and Master's in Natural Resources.
The partnership between UEMS and SENAI reflects the industrial sector's concern for formal professionals in line with the reality of the job market.

PGRN/CERNA of UEMS welcomes Agronomy students from UNIGRAN for a technical visit
The Postgraduate Program in Natural Resources (PGRN) – Master's and Doctorate – of the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS) welcomed around 30 students from the eighth semester of the Agronomy course, from the Grande Dourados University Center (Unigran), for a technical visit to the Program's laboratories, members of the Food Technology discipline.
The event called “Technology of products of plant origin: analysis of oil quality and fermentation parameters of biomass”, allowed students to participate in two lectures: “Analysis of oxidative stability in food – Rancimat Method”, given by Professor Antônio Rogério Fiorucci and PhD student Eliane Ferreira de Souza; and on “The efficiency of the fermentation process from alternative biomasses” given by Professor Margareth Batistote and Master's student Maria do Socorro Mascarenhas Santos.

INTERFACES WITH BASIC EDUCATION
Professor Antonio Rogério Fiorucci coordinates the PIBID project in the Chemistry Degree course at UEMS/Dourados, which has the participation of students from the PGRN, demonstrating the clear relationship between Undergraduate and Graduate courses, in addition to the role that this interaction has in strengthening basic education.

Natural Resources: Dissemination and inclusion
The proposal prioritizes students' contact with studies in the areas of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resources, allowing them to have a view of these areas and the studies carried out in the State on these topics. The use of real studies in high school and undergraduate courses, in the first instance, aims to arouse students' interest, with an argument that facilitates learning, followed by the interpretation of everyday life, ending with an understanding of the world as a whole. A reference where successes and failures coexist, exchanging their statuses, in constant back and forth, is what makes it possible to use science in the teaching-learning process, a history that can show the coexistence of different explanations for the same fact, at the same time, addressing aspects that facilitate the elaboration of knowledge.
