History

Following internal procedures at UEMS, the PGRN was created in 2007 to submit a proposal for a new course to CAPES in 2008. During this period, the faculty members were already working to create an interdisciplinary research environment, with a focus on Natural Sciences, and the first results of this research resulted in various publications during this period. Unfortunately, when evaluating the course proposal in 2008, CAPES understood that the profile of the Program was focused on the area of Ecology and not Interdisciplinary, which resulted in its non-approval by CTC-CAPES in 2008.

In 2009, the proposal was reorganized in order to direct CAPES' understanding that the Program had an interdisciplinary stance. This new resubmission of the proposal was approved in 2009 with a score of 3, the year in which the first vacancies were offered for the Master's Degree in Natural Resources, with activities beginning in March 2010. This would be the first year of the triennial evaluation for the period 2010-2012.

According to the understanding of the teaching team at the time, the PGRN began its activities with a structure that already gave it the possibility of offering the Doctorate Course. Thus, in 2012, a request was made to CAPES, which authorized the offering of the Doctorate Course starting in February 2013. On this occasion, the PGRN was anchored in CAPES with a score of 3 for the Master's Degree in the Interdisciplinary area and a score of 4 for the Doctorate in the area of Environmental Sciences, which was only unified at the end of the four-year evaluation for the period 2013-2016, when the PGRN achieved its score of 4 as a Program offering Master's and Doctorate courses.

Now, at the end of its third evaluation cycle, which covered the period from 2017 to 2020, the PGRN achieved a score of 5 mainly for its delivery to society of professionals capable of mobilizing and transforming society through knowledge produced with a focus on Natural Resources.
