PROGRAM

The PGRN was conceived with “Natural Resources” as its area of concentration, which was justified by the geographic location of the program, close to the Cerrado and Pantanal biomes with residual areas of Atlantic Forest.

In this “large natural laboratory”, the PGRN faculty has organized its research and guidance, whether by evaluating and understanding the chemical and biological components present in plants, insects, etc. (Natural Products research line), or by monitoring the region’s natural environments by understanding the dynamic activities of insects and fish in the different biomes, and also by evaluating the plant resources available in the region (Natural Environments research line). Environmental monitoring is also based on the study of the effects of biotic and abiotic actions, which are very present and intense in the region, mainly due to the use of pesticides on large plantations. These studies involve the characterization of water and soil in the region, for example. In addition, PGRN professors work on the development and/or application of new methodologies for analyzing and monitoring natural resources (research line Materials and Methods Applied to Natural Resources). The improvement of methods is often accompanied by the development of new materials (sensors, for example), both for analyzing environmental resources and for their use. In the latter case, researchers seek new materials that have the potential for sustainable application in the environment, whether to minimize the use of electrical energy or to generate new alternative sources of energy.
